So, most of the problems you see reported are just due to differences in driver versions (and most NEC drivers for one card brand will also work on a different card brand). Most of the USB 3.0 cards (and motherboards with USB 3.0 built in) use NEC chipsets. You can get a PCIe USB 3.0 card with a power connection on the card for $14.94:Ĭables are relatively inexpensive, too (under $5 for 6 feet or shorter USB 3.0 cables). Power to the card is necessary to power external driver that don't have AC power adapters.
